Journal Writing Ideas—
It’s a New Year &
Time for Making Resolutions
If you ask me, one of the most powerful and enjoyable new year’s resolutions that anyone can make – child or adult – is to journal. Journal writing exercises the mind and helps you to process your thoughts, feelings and emotions.
Journaling can also help adults to achieve those New Year’s resolution goals, such as weight loss, eliminating debt or quitting smoking. Journal keeping can help kids to create healthy habits such as a positive mindset, self-awareness, and creative expression, all of which build self-esteem and help to increase happiness.
Daily journaling is the most effective, if you ask me, but a commitment to journal just once a week is admirable and will get you results. And come on… who can’t find time to write in a journal just once a week?
The truth is that everyone has time to keep a journal… It comes down to choice and priority. So my questions are these:
- Are you willing to commit to journaling at least once a week?
- Will you you help a child to do the same?
- Are you ready to get excited about journal keeping?
Then read on!
Journal Writing
New Years Prompts
For some, the biggest obstacle to writing in a journal is what to write about. In order to help you help kids with their journal writing, I offer the following list of journal writing prompts for children:
- I am very proud because…
- If I were President I would…
- Why is the President so important?
- I am afraid to_______ because…
- Name one thing you do really well and describe it in detail.
- What is your favorite room in your home and why?
- Describe what it means to be a good neighbor?
- What is your favorite time of day and why?
- Describe your best day ever? Give lots of details explaining why.
- How do you deal with people who bug you?
The Treasure of Journaling
- Jim Rohn is a big fan of journaling and says, “Keeping a journal is so important. I call it one of the three treasure to leave behind for the next generation.
In fact, future generations will find these three treasures more valuable than your furniture.” He goes on to explain that the other two treasures are your pictures and your library.
Award-Winning Journal Writing Exercise Ready to Go
And, may I suggest to you a ready-to-go fabulous journaling tool for kids? Before I do, let me share with you some feedback about this resource from EverydayMoms.ca. They say:
“A fun way for kids, both girls and boys, to discuss and explore their self esteem. Unlike a diary Journal Buddies helps a bit more by asking your child questions as to how they are feeling, things they are going through and also better ways to respect others that are around them. It’s also a way for parents to connect with their kids who aren’t so willing to share how they’re feeling.
I highly recommend these journals for anyone who has kids… a great way to connect.” (Read the full review of Journal Buddies here)
Ok, so the journaling resource for kids I want to tell you about is Journal Buddies.
