Scoring Procedures for the Rosenberg Self Esteem Test
Scores are calculated as follows,
For items 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7:
Strongly agree (SA) = 3
Agree (A) = 2
Disagree (D) = 1
Strongly disagree (SA) = 0
For items 3, 5, 8, 9, and 10 (which are reversed in valence):
Strongly agree (SA) = 0
Agree (A) = 1
Disagree (D) = 2
Strongly disagree SD) = 3
The scale ranges from 0-30.
A score below 15 suggests low self-esteem and above indicates that self-esteem is healthy and in tact.
Those with high self-esteem have an unusually positive self image. Most people with low self-esteem do not have a negative, but rather a neutral self-image.

I would like to know if I can use the self esteem test (Rosenberg) for primary school children (6-11 years old)?
I think that maybe it is going to be dificut for them to understand some of the questions.
thank you for your time.
Pilar
Hello Pilar,
Yes, you may use the test for primary children but will need to adjust the language level of the questions for your age group. Remember, imitation is the highest form of flattery, so I’m sure Rosenberg would approve!
I wish you success.
Sincerely,
Jill
Hi guys, Pilar and Jill, I found a self esteem test (http://selfesteemtest.net/) do you think it’s any good. I tried it and got moderate which I think is about right because I am fairly confident in myself.
What do you think?
Unfortunately the link doesn’t work. But I think moderate is great!
I just wanna ask, if I could translate this questionnaire into a Filipino language? I will be having a pilot study (Art therapy:its effect on the self-esteem of grade four pupils)
Ma’am Jill, if you don’t mind can i ask for the email add, wherein I can ask a consent for this? I really need it for my study this moment. Thank You.
Please feel free to translate the questionnaire as it used extensively by others. Oh, you might also want to know that the Rosenberg self-esteem scale has been translated into many languages already. To learn more read this article on Wikipedia .
I wish you all the very best with your wonderful pilot program!!!
Kindly,
Jill
PS Here’s a study that used the Rosenberg scale with younger children.
